Text contrast (text-contrast)

Text smaller than 18pt (or 14pt bold) must meet a contrast ratio of 4.5:1 against its background.

Informative text with low contrast:

The first paragraph meets contrast requirements with a ratio of 12.6:1. The second paragraph, although slightly styled, provides meaningful content and has a contrast ratio of only 3.85:1, which fails WCAG 1.4.3.

Helvetica is a widely used sans-serif typeface developed in 1957 by Max Miedinger and Eduard Hoffmann.

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.

Note: Text styled to demonstrate fonts or examples must still meet contrast requirements if it conveys meaning. The second paragraph fails because its contrast ratio (3.85:1) is too low to be accessible.
