Text readability(own-test-readability-spacing)

Text does not start at the screen edge; inner side padding is provided to maintain readability and support increased text spacing.

Text flush to edge

Lines of text begin at the very left edge of the screen. On small screens this reduces legibility and makes it harder to track lines. Provide inner side padding so content doesn’t collide with the viewport edge (project-defined check aligned with WCAG 1.4.12).

This text is intentionally placed right against the screen edge. With no side padding, the first and last characters touch the edge, which makes the paragraph harder to read and to follow from line to line—especially on phones.

Add some space on the sides so lines don’t touch the edges. As a simple rule of thumb, give the content side padding (e.g., 16–32px, scaled for screen size). This breathing room improves readability and still works when users increase text spacing.

Note: Impossible to automatically test. There isn’t one reliable rule that works for every page and screen size. A person needs to look at the page and decide if the text has enough space from the edges to read comfortably.
